FIXER is a continuous research initiative to understand and map the various development in Indonesian art collective practices. This research focuses on independent economical sustainability strategies and ideas from diverse movements and art practices which being developed by art collectives/organizations/alternative spaces throughout generations and localities in Indonesia.
Initiated in 2010 as “Art Alternative Space & Groups in Indonesia Exhibition,” in North Art Space curated by Ade Darmawan and Rifky Efendi, this project is later developed by Gudskul: Contemporary Art Collectives and Ecosystem Studies since 2019.
By following the collective map here, you can see the art collectives participating in the FIXER 2021. It is a visible trend that art collectives in Indonesia in the last ten years have been emerging in regions outside Java.
VISIT MAPIn conjuction with the book production, a public program called Articulating FIXER: Serial Nongkrong Kolektif (collective hangout serial) were held live on Instagram @fixer.indonesia for 12 times from April to August 2021. These were pleasant talks with guest writers and collective representatives who contributed their pieces for the FIXER book.
The discussions explored the A – Z of art collectives in Indonesia; development, ideas, regeneration, daily life, etc. in the last 10 years, including imaginations and plans for the future.
The discussion series were held throughout December 2021 as a Articulating FIXER 2021 book promoting event by collaborating with art collective and universities in each cities. This Articulating FIXER Roadshow were held in Makassar, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Padang Panjang, Bandung, Medan, Kuningan and Jakarta.
